The AZoM.com "Materials Thought Leaders" series is a selection of articles that cover the key technology areas where materials are making an impact and where they will make an increasing impact. All the articles are written by experts who have been invited as recognised leaders in their fields to provide a "state of the art" contribution.
AZoM speaks with Michael Foshey, Mechanical Engineer in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Michael is part of a team of researchers at MIT that has developed a data-driven system that accelerates the process of discovering new 3D printing materials that have multiple mechanical properties. The research was supported by BASF.

Coxem has developed a new automated large area particle analyzer based on SEM(Scanning Electron
Microscope) that can be employed in the analysis and classification of particles by size and element. One of the companies that have made the switch to SELPA is Solge, a South Korean business that is using the device for lubricant analysis of substances like engine oil and for the examination of debris in oil. Solge’s CEO explains the benefits of SELPA.
AZoM speaks with Ozgun Kilic Afsar, a Ph.D. candidate at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and a Research Affiliate at MIT Media Lab. Ozgun is currently working on the development of, OmniFiber. One of the contexts that Ozgun is currently researching is OmniFiber's potential to allow for intergenerational interactions in opera, such as two experts singing a duet across time and space.
