IR for Everyone, Everywhere

The Spectrum Two™ leads the way in operational simplicity by integrating excellent performance with a low-maintenance design. The instrument offers real laboratory performance IR for day-to-day analysis for all users in any place.

The Spectrum Two is ideal for an extensive range of applications and can be set up according to users’ needs with respect to the performance level preferred to fulfill the requirements of their daily IR analyses. The Configurations table given on this page lists all available instrument options.

All Spectrum Two FT-IR spectrometers come with the following features:

  • Optional temperature-stabilized, high-performance DTGS (deuterated triglycine sulfate) MIR detector featuring a SNR of 14,500:1. Best suited for high-throughput, low-light applications
  • Standard, room-temperature, high-performance LiTaO3 (lithium tantalate) MIR detector featuring a SNR of 9,300:1
  • Standard AVC including optional APV/AVI configuration
  • Optional ZnSe windows that can be used in highly humid environments for collecting data across a spectral range of 6,000–550 cm−1
  • Standard optical system provided with KBr windows to collect data across a spectral range of 8,300–350 cm−1 at the finest resolution of 0.5 cm−1

Listed below are additional features that enable the consistent performance of this instrument:

  • OpticsGuard™ technology — Exclusive humidity shield design safeguards Spectrum Two from environmental effects, enabling its use in highly difficult conditions. The long-life desiccant from PerkinElmer guarantees maximum instrument uptime, irrespective of where the analysis is performed.
  • Dynascan™ interferometer — The fixed mirror-pair design of the interferometer avoids the need for dynamic alignment for error compensation.
  • Absolute Virtual Instrument™ (AVI) — The optional AVI standardization performed with gas phase methane spectra makes sure that instruments are calibrated accurately. The exclusive standardization enables accurate data transfer between instruments, either side-by-side or in remote locations.
  • Atmospheric Vapor Compensation™ (AVC) — An advanced digital filtering algorithm has been provided and designed to compensate for CO2 and H2O absorptions in real-time, eliminating the need for instrument purging.
  • Sigma-Delta Conversion — Using Sigma-Delta converters to digitize the FT-IR interferogram minimizes spectral artifacts, enhances the dynamic range and increases ordinate linearity to offer accurate, reproducible results.
  • Automatic Performance Verification™ (APV) — This is an optional feature that includes a built-in, completely automatic filter wheel with traceable reference materials and software enabling abscissa, ordinate, noise, ASTM and USP tests to be conducted.

For Every Application

PerkinElmer understands that each application is different. The result is a comprehensive solution to offer the quickest assurance of the quality of users’ materials, irrespective of the application.

Given below are some of the industry applications for which the Spectrum Two has been engineered to accommodate:

  • Polymers
  • Pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals
  • Environmental
  • In-service lubricants and fuels
  • Academia

For these particular applications, PerkinElmer has designed different analysis systems and application pack add-ons. Spectrum Two has been engineered to work with a wide range of “plug-and-go” sampling accessories to improve the instrument’s versatility.

The company delivers an array of HATR, UATR, Specular Reflectance and Diffuse Reflectance accessories for use with the Spectrum Two system.

Results Matter

The Spectrum 10™ software that comes integrated with the instrument allows users to control the instrument and to manipulate the spectra that they collect. The spectrometers can work in single-beam, ratio or interferogram mode.

Right from material and contaminant identification to quantitative analysis, the all-inclusive Spectrum 10 software suite enables users to focus on the most important aspect — results.

This comprehensive FT-IR software package has been developed specifically for busy industrial or academic laboratories, thus simplifying data collection, processing and the generation of results.

The software allows users who lack scientific training to produce infrared spectra from a sample and validate them against reference spectra within a few minutes or even a few seconds.

The Spectrum 10 ES™ software is available for regulated industries that demand secure IR quality testing. The Spectrum 10 ES incorporates the extensive features of Spectrum 10 and includes data security, user access control, data integrity and audit trailing to guarantee secure analyses to fulfill the technical demands of 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.

Collaborate from the Cloud

The Spectrum 10 software featuring NetPlus™ cloud connectivity provides new sharing and collaborative tools that enable users to access data any time, from any device, and from anywhere to selectively distribute and download data and methods using the integrated publishing tool.

  • Users can collaborate by accessing IR data from any device, any time and anywhere it is required
  • Users can securely share data, reports, calibrations and methods

IR Ready to Go

The Spectrum Two features a robust and small-sized design, which enables it to be easily transferred between environments. The easy user installation and fast warm-up time allow the instrument to be set up quickly.

Thanks to the extensive range of sampling accessories, users’ analyses can be moved out of the laboratory.

Optional features like wireless connectivity to power portable PC control, or the Portability Pack that includes a carrying case, battery pack and 12V car auxiliary port adaptor, make the Spectrum Two ready to go where users go.
