Exploring the Most Demanding Seal Applications

Failure is not an option in the most challenging sealing applications. Valves continually push the competencies of sealing solutions, and elastomer solutions are often insufficient. Technetics’ high-performance metallic seals have unmatched reliability and excel in such difficult situations.

In these extreme scenarios, Technetics’ metallic seals combine state-of-the-art engineering with innovative material design, exceeding expectations and withstanding the rigor of challenging applications.

Why High-Performance Metallic Seals?

Traditional sealing methods, e.g., elastomers or graphite seals, display inadequacies in extreme environments. Under the massive workload of valves in such applications, they may become looser or deform; both consequences present distinct challenges.

Seals are required in cryogenic temperatures as low as -423 °F and as high as 1450 °F. These conditions may also comprise corrosive and radioactive environments, which impart extreme wear on other sealing solutions.

Extreme conditions also include ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environments, where the seal's permeation could be disastrous.

Above all, the nuclear, chemical, oil and gas, and semiconductor industries require seals that can perform under these harsh conditions without major degradation. Metallic sealing solutions are generally the only option.

Benefits

The benefits fulfilled via metallic sealing solutions over elastomers and polymers are significant.

Metallic seals can withstand the previously mentioned extreme temperatures, radiation, and corrosion much better than their counterparts and can deliver more consistent and dependable performance under such conditions.

They are not gas-permeable, reinforcing their use in UHV and high-pressure applications, and they display ultra-low leak rates.

A metallic seal's shelf life is practically indefinite. When energized, metallic seals display resiliency and spring-back properties, allowing them to adapt to environmental or system changes.

Technetics offers a range of metal seals that back unmatched performance in critical applications, with accessible custom engineering to ensure that the final solution perfectly matches distinctive performance requirements.

Technetics is a partner, not merely a manufacturer, in finding the perfect solution. By combining advanced design tools, engineering teams with extensive expertise, and exhaustive, constant research and development, genuinely innovative solutions are made possible.

Technetics’ precise seal design allows for the maximization of performance and minimization of weight. Standard alignments do not constrain such solutions, and the fabrication of custom seals helps us meet unique challenges head-on. Each design concept is tested before it leaves the workshop to ensure it will meet the requirements of a critical environment.
