Introduction

Super alloys function excellently at elevated temperatures and high mechanical stress, and also where high surface stability is required. These alloys possess good creep and oxidation resistance, and can be produced in a number of shapes.

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 is a lower carbon version of a commercially pure (99%) nickel material that contains small amounts of other elements totaling less than 1%. The following sections will discuss in detail about super alloy VDM LC 99.2.

Chemical Composition

The chemical composition of super alloy VDM LC 99.2 is outlined in the following table.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 is a commercially pure nickel material that is soft and “gummy” to machine. It behaves similarly to nickel 200 grade alloy when machined. This alloy can be machined using conventional high speed tools.

Forming

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 can be formed using any of the conventional methods. It is suitable for forming parts spinning operations.

Welding

Welding of super alloy VDM LC 99.2 can be performed using all the traditional welding methods except for oxyacetylene welding.

Forging

Forging should be performed in the temperature range of 1149-649°C (2100-1200°F).

Hot Working

Hot working can be performed at 1149-649°C (2100-1200°F).

Cold Working

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 can be cold formed using all the standard tools.

Annealing

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 can be annealed at 899-704°C (1650-1300°F).

Applications

Super alloy VDM LC 99.2 is mainly used in applications where spinning to form the product is required, and in chemical corrosion resistance applications in caustic solutions. It is also used in the manufacture of electronic components.
