Hiden Isochema’s IGA series are excellent tools for sorption science. The IGA tools are based on the gravimetric method and precisely measure the dynamics and magnitude of gas and vapor sorption on materials.
The IGA-003 tool is a gravimetric analyzer that is designed to analyze mixed gas and/or vapor sorption methods from vacuum through to high pressure. The tool is integrated with a multiple inlet mass flow control system. An internal gas delivery unit introduces the gas stream below the sample and extracts above it, which allows a defined gas composition to be formed at the sample position. It is possible to mix up to four gas streams before injecting into the sample reactor as the flow and pressure control are independent.
A balance purge can be provided with this tool to facilitate the use of corrosive gases/vapors at the sample position, and at the same time protect the reliability of the weighing unit. Likewise, an optional humidifier or vapor generator enables the release of defined vapor compositions to the sample reactor.
The IGA design combines accurate computer-control and measurement of mass change, temperature, and pressure to enable 100% automatic and reproducible determination of gas sorption-desorption isotherms and isobars in varied operating conditions. Different sample environment options are provided so that operation at temperatures from -196 to 1000°C and at pressures ranging from ultra-high vacuum to 20 bar are possible. A close-coupled mass spectrometer option facilitates the performance of product desorption and basic TGA-MS experiments.
The IGA-003 tool can be used to analyse mixed gas/vapor sorption on materials such as carbons, polymers, zeolites, and catalysts.
