Dynamic Gas and Vapor Sorption Analysis with IGA EcoSorp

The IGA EcoSorp is a dynamic gas and vapor sorption analyzer. It is a dedicated gravimetric analyzer for carbon capture applications.

Benefits of IGA Ecosorp

  • Co-adsorption of water and carbon dioxide in carbon capture conditions
  • Highly flexible partial pressure control from 100 ppm CO2 to 100%
  • Unmatched accuracy in flow regulation through the use of barometric compensation technology.

Introducing IGA Ecosorp

The IGA EcoSorp represents a novel benchtop sorption analyzer designed for studies on carbon capture. With the ability to combine CO2 gas sorption under dynamic flow conditions with high-resolution gravimetric water sorption, the IGA EcoSorp provides a feasible and reasonably priced way to evaluate the performance of potential carbon capture sorbents under various pertinent circumstances.

Carbon dioxide and water concentrations can be independently controlled with independent humidity regulation and CO2 partial pressures ranging from 100 ppm to pure CO2. This enables precise evaluation of material performance under Direct Air Capture (DAC) conditions around 400 ppm, and also flue gas conditions in the region of 15 %.

With an integrated heater that enables in-situ degassing and regeneration at temperatures as high as 350 °C, measurements are fully programmable and can be performed at temperatures between 5 and 85 °C.

Key Features

  • Advanced thermostat design for long-term stability
  • Combines DVS water sorption with high-resolution gas sorption
  • Complete automation for high-resolution isothermal and long-term cycling studies
  • In-situ degassing and activation to 350 °C
  • Fully programmable for advanced method development
  • Unique barometric compensation technology for accurate CO2 flow regulation
  • Widest controllable CO2 partial pressure range of any dynamic sorption analyzer

The IGA Method

Every stage of a gravimetric sorption measurement is conducted independently using the special IGA method developed by Hiden Isochema.  At each step, the humidity, gas pressure, and temperature are actively regulated, and the resultant changes in sample weight are continuously recorded.

Real-time analysis of the kinetic weight data predicts and shows the trend toward equilibrium on the screen. Equilibration criteria are utilized to objectively determine the duration permitted before transitioning to the next pressure or temperature value in the measurement process. An isotherm or isohume is plotted at each equilibrium point, and the complete raw data set is also recorded.

Faster overall process times and consistent analysis with optimal measurement accuracy are made possible by the IGA EcoSorp.

Applications

The IGA EcoSorp is a specialized gravimetric analyzer designed for carbon capture applications. It characterizes potential sorbents under conditions pertinent to carbon capture, utilization, and storage, emphasizing direct air capture (DAC) and post-combustion capture (PCC) scenarios.

  • CO2 isotherm measurements under dry and controlled humidity conditions
  • Cycling stability testing
  • DVS H2O sorption isotherm and kinetic studies
  • Response tests under controlled DAC and PCC conditions
  • Thermodynamic assessment (enthalpy of sorption)
