Testing Standards
ASTM D751 Section 18 & Section 22
Fixture Configurations
ASTM D751 includes two distinct sections dedicated to evaluating the integrity of coated fabrics through burst and puncture testing. Section 18 specifies the use of a spherical plunger for determining the bursting strength, whereas Section 22 employs a sharper puncture probe to measure the puncture resistance.
Both assessments are performed in a compressive mode, with the plunger or probe descending towards the specimen, securely positioned within the FS-PT-ASTM D751 specimen holding ring. This holding ring is consistently used for both testing methods as prescribed by ASTM D751.

ASTM D3787
Fixture Configurations
FS-PT-ASTM D3787 uses a constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT) ball burst test to determine the bursting strength of textiles. It includes a specimen holding ring measuring 44.45 mm (1.75 in) in diameter and a probe with a radius of 12.7 mm (0.5 in). Textiles or fabrics with a high degree of ultimate elongation can be tested using this method. 20 kN and 50 kN fixture options are also available.
