Enables Cascades of CSTR’s
The behavior of two or more CSTRs operating in sequence as a cascade can resemble that of a plug flow reactor (PFR). In contrast to a batch reactor, this allows for continuous flow reactions with regulated residence time distribution and less back mixing.
On an R-Series system, the Vapourtec modular CSTR can be set up in a cascade of up to eight, and on each E-Series system, it can be set up in a cascade of two. Using CSTRs also has the advantage of accessing bigger reactor contents, up to 320 ml in the case of R-Series, which enables higher throughputs and/or longer residence times.

Compared to plug flow reactors (PFR) and microchip reactors, CSTRs are far more tolerant of particulates, allowing for the following processes:

Pressurized Reactions to 5.0 Bar

When operating under pressure, a wider variety of reactions are conceivable, such as:
- Reactions at temperatures higher than reflux
- Gas-liquid reactions
- Gas-liquid-solid reactions
The Vapourtec CSTR is developed with safety as a top priority. A burst disk and an optional safety screen are standard safety measures for all pressurized reactions.

An LED light source is now available, making it possible to perform reagentless photochemical reactions using the Vapourtec CSTR. For the photochemical CSTR, LED wavelengths ranging from 365 nm to 650 nm are accessible.
