EPFL Achieves 12.4% Conversion Efficiency Using Cost-Effective Material on Lead Halide Perovskite Devices

Despite their solar-energy conversion efficiency, hybrid lead halide perovskites have high costs of manufacturing because of the expensive materials used for hole-transporting. By using a cheap inorganic alternative, EPFL scientists have achieved 12.4% power-conversion efficiency.

Magnetic Bacteria Could Help Diagnose Digestive Diseases

Scientists from the University of Granada have successfully created magnetic bacteria that could be added to foodstuffs and could, after ingestion, help diagnose diseases of the digestive system like stomach cancer. These important findings constitute the first use of a food as a natural drug and aid in diagnosing an illness, anywhere in the world.

AISI Honors AK Steel Employee for Research on High-Strength Steels

AK Steel said today that one of the company's employees has been recognized by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) for distinguished research. Grant Thomas, Ph.D., Research Engineer at AK Steel, in collaboration with two research colleagues from the Colorado School of Mines, has received the AISI "Finalist Medal" for the technical paper entitled, "Tensile Properties Obtained by Q&P Processing of Mn-Ni Steels With Room Temperature Quench Temperatures."
