H+H Become First British Pre-Cast Building Manufacturer with Carbon Trust Standard Certification

H+H is the first manufacturer of pre-cast building products in Britain to be officially certified with the Carbon Trust Standard, after taking action on climate change by reducing its carbon footprint by 5%.

The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s only initiative that requires organisations to take action themselves, by reducing their own carbon emissions year-on-year. In fact, it’s almost 60 years since H+H first introduced aircrete from Denmark to the UK as a high-insulation structural component manufactured from recycled fuel waste.

H+H aircrete is manufactured from 80% pulverised fuel ash waste recycled from coal-fired power stations that would otherwise be destined for landfill.

“The Carbon Trust Standard is a great way of showing that we have taken action on climate change and communicating our environmental credentials,” said H+H UK managing director, Mark Oliver. “It is essential that we remain competitive in the current climate and the Carbon Trust Standard is another that way we can stay ahead of the game.”

CEO of the Carbon Trust, Tom Delay said: “We congratulate H+H in achieving the Carbon Trust Standard and challenge other organisations to follow their example and prove that they too are taking tangible steps to fight climate change.”

The Carbon Trust Standard was launched in June with the support of Environment Secretary Hilary Benn and entrepreneur Deborah Meaden of Dragon’s Den TV fame (seen in the photo), who said:

“I passionately believe that success in business and positive action on the environment can go hand in hand and deliver real bottom line benefits. The Carbon Trust Standard is about showing which organisations have really taken practical action on climate change – it cuts through greenwash and celebrates those businesses making genuine reductions in their carbon emissions.

“Tackling environmental issues has to be seen as both a business priority and opportunity. Achieving the Carbon Trust Standard is a great way of recognising truly progressive organisations.”
