SGL and Brembo Form Carbon Ceramic Brake Joint Venture

SGL Group and Brembo SpA communicate today that they are in an advanced stage of negotiations aimed to merge their respective activities in the field of carbon ceramic brakes for the automotive industry into a 50-50 joint venture.

The initiative will combine the superior expertise from the respective parent companies: carbon fiber material knowhow from SGL Group and high-end brake application competence, also in carbon ceramic, from Brembo. It is envisioned that in a few years the carbon ceramic brake business could expand to a larger number of vehicles, thanks to the properties of the material like lightweight, longer lifetime, corrosion resistance and thermal stability compared to the current cast iron brakes.

The execution of the deal is expected by May 2009, subject to the finalization of the contracts and the approval of the relevant authorities.
