Powder Coating for Interior MDF Doors Suited to Industrial Applications

Powder-coating pioneer Abcor Industries today announced the introduction of ResiliColor, an extremely low-emitting powder coating finish for medium density fiberboard (MDF) interior doors.

ResiliColor sustainable powder coating for MDF interior doors.

Aimed at the hospitality, healthcare and institutional segments, where traffic is particularly heavy and indoor air quality is of high concern, ResiliColor is as durable as it is environmentally healthy. Designed for both solid core MDF doors of any fire rating and medium density overlay (MDO) hollow doors, the dense powder coating is applied through a proprietary process and is so durable that it requires virtually no maintenance or repair. The finish is comparable to the WDMA OP-8 Door Finish Standard. It withstands heat and moisture and is highly scratch- and impact-resistant. Streaks, stains and graffiti can be wiped off with a cleaning solution.

"We've created a nearly indestructible shell for MDF doors," Abcor senior vice president Tim Bush said. "It was specifically designed to withstand the harsh wear and tear common in hotels, hospitals and schools, which saves facility managers money."

ResiliColor doesn't emit toxic gases or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the powders are stored in environmentally safe containers. Powder overspray or spillage is reclaimed and reused; not sent to landfills. ResiliColor can contribute to up to five different credits within the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, including EQ 4.2: Low Emitting Materials - Paints and Coatings. The powder coating also has anti-microbial properties, making it especially ideal for healthcare environments.

ResiliColor is the only MDF powder coating that has been field-tested and has been applied as finish on more than 1,200 doors throughout various Marriott hotels.

The powder coating is available in every color in the palette and can be custom-matched. Sheens range from matte to high gloss and textures from rough metallic to smooth clear coat. Doors are delivered to the Abcor plant, where they are prefinished and shipped directly to the jobsite, ready to install. The coating has been approved for use by some of the largest door manufacturers in the U.S.
