From 20 to 24 April, BASF will be exhibiting new products and solutions for metal surface treatment in "World of Surfaces" at the Hanover Fair 2009, Germany, the world's leading technology trade show. At Booth B40 of the "Zentralverband Oberflachentechnik" (Central Association for Surface Technology) in Hall 6, BASF experts will be presenting solutions for corrosion protection, the pre- and posttreatment of galvanized steel strip, and metalworking fluids.
Anti-corrosion solutions
BASF offers a comprehensive range of solutions for formulators of galvano and anti-corrosion products.
BASF will present Lugalvan FDC, a product for sealing the passivated surfaces of zinc-plated items. Additives such as silicates can be used to tailor the seal to individual requirements.
Lugalvan P is characterized by superior throwing power, i.e. metal distribution, in alkaline cyanide-free zinc plating processes. Recent studies have shown that Lugalvan P also acts as a film former with anti-corrosion properties. It prevents pitting of stainless steel in highly chloride-containing environments and can stop pitting that is already present.
BASF's Korantin grades effectively inhibit the corrosive action of acids on metals. These products are therefore particularly recommended for use in acid cleaners and pickling baths.
Fluoride- and heavy-metal-free: Lugalvan Passivation
Lugalvan Passivation is the first fluoride- and heavy-metal-free conversion coating product for galvanized steel strip. Based on organic components, Lugalvan Passivation is transparent and colorless, inhibits wet-stack or salt-induced corrosion, and provides very good surface conductivity. The chromium-free anti-corrosion treatment offers completely new possibilities to end-users. Lugalvan Passivation can be directly painted over but, like anti-corrosion oils, it is also simple to remove with an alkaline cleaner.
