Delphi Open A New Engineering Facility And Two New Customer Service Centres In Japan

Delphi Corp. has opened a new engineering facility and two new customer service centres in Japan, further expanding its presence in the country, Delphi officials announced today. The new engineering office is near Nagoya and opened in April. The two new customer service centres are in Utsunomiya-city and Hiroshima-city.

With the new facilities, Delphi now operates eight facilities in Japan, including its headquarters, the technical centre in Tokyo, and an aftermarket sales office in Osaka. Delphi also has a joint-venture manufacturing site in Utsunomiya-city.

”We know how important it is to our Japanese OEM customers to have local support in their home market, so we are pleased to enhance our presence here," said J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, chief executive officer and president. "With our major engineering centres in all four regions of the world, we'll be able to provide around-the-clock support to our customers here.”

The new engineering office has product-testing facilities that will allow Delphi engineers to jointly evaluate products and systems with its customers. The office also is equipped with an advanced videoconference system that enables Delphi engineers and customers to communicate globally.

The new customer service support centres will allow Delphi to provide enhanced sales/engineering services to its customers. Both facilities are capable of further expansion to meet future business requirements.

”The basis of these new facilities is to build long-term relations with our Japanese customers while continuing to provide quality products with cutting-edge technology at competitive prices. These new facilities will enhance our ability to further exceed our customers' expectations,” said Choon T. Chon, president of Delphi Asia Pacific operations.

Delphi has approximately 9,000 employees and operates 14 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 17 joint ventures, and 6 technical centres in the Asia Pacific region.

Delphi is steadily building its relationship with Japanese-based OEMs. The company has won several quality awards from Toyota this year, along with a delivery award from Honda. Last October, Delphi announced it had been awarded a contract by Nissan Diesel Motor Co. to supply diesel engine management systems for heavy-duty truck applications.
