Bayer MaterialScience and comfort products manufacturer Zentia have jointly developed a pillow that offers users improved comfort and hygiene.
For the new Seafoam pillow the latest product and design technology is applied, and it is manufactured using the new viscoelastic polyurethane foam system Bayfit, developed by Bayer MaterialScience. This PU foam system allows air to circulate through the foam, enabling the dissipation of body heat and perspiration during sleep.
"With this new foam system we are able to provide a broad range of comfort quality that fulfils the requests of end consumers", explains Fernando Simon, Marketing Manager of the polyurethane systems house BaySystems Iberia. BaySystems is the umbrella brand for the global polyurethane systems business of Bayer MaterialScience.
Bayfit is the material for so called slow recovery foam that adapts to the body's weight regardless of temperature, distributing it over the largest possible surface area to improve comfort. Its easy adaptation to body shape prevents muscular tension and helps the user find the appropriate position for proper rest. The foam also has a great capacity for recovering its original shape after being subjected to pressure.
The ease with which the material adapts to the body, combined with the air circulation system, results in a frequent use of the pillow in clinics and hospitals to prevent ulcers appearing in patients who are bedridden for a prolonged period of time (decubitus prophylaxis).
