New Knife Blade Alloy from Carpenter Technology

Carpenter Technology Corp. (NYSE: CRS), Wyomissing, PA, USA, is introducing Carpenter CTS-BD1, a new alloy that is part of the Carpenter CTS alloys suite. These particular alloys offer many attributes making them attractive for use in consumer, industrial and medical knife blade applications.

Carpenter CTS-BD1 is a premium melted stainless steel containing certain metal additions that offer characteristics such as enhanced knife blade edge retention at a competitive cost.

The Carpenter CTS family of alloys offers superior edge retention and surface finish as well as an ability to be machined to a fine edge and consistent heat-treatability from lot to lot. These attributes make the Carpenter CTS alloys strong candidates for a wide array of blade applications, including commercial food processing, paper processing, textile, packaging, recycling/refuse, kitchen knives, hand tools, scissors/shears, shaving razors, sport/hunting knives, ice skates, military/defense, law enforcement, salon blades and various surgical/medical applications.

The other alloys in the Carpenter CTS suite are CTS-40CP (Micro-Melt 440C), CTS-XHP (Micro-Melt 440-XH alloy), CTS-10 (410 stainless), CTS-20 (420 stainless), CTS 40A (Type 440A), CTS-40C (Type 440C), CTS-TMT (Trinamet stainless), CTS-20CP (Micro-Melt 420-CW), CTS-B52 (VIM-VAR 52100), CTS-B90 (X-90), CTS-B75 (S42700), CTS-B70 (CRB-7 alloy) and CTS-204P (Micro-Melt 20-4).

All of the Carpenter CTS alloys are produced with stringent quality control from melting through shipment. Carpenter offers technical support for customers with questions about the Carpenter CTS alloys and a new Selectaloy tool is available to aid customers with alloy selection. The Carpenter CTS alloys are available for sale directly from Carpenter.
