BASF Joins Disaster Preparedness Organization and promotes Sound Residential Construction

BASF, the world's leading chemical company, today announced that it has become an official partner of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes Inc. - FLASH, one of the most respected disaster preparedness organizations in the nation.

BASF joins more than 75 partners from government, business, academia and not-for-profit organizations, including the Federal Emergency Management Association, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the International Code Council, to advance the organization's mission to protect lives, property, and economic well-being by strengthening homes and safeguarding families from natural and man-made disasters.

"BASF has a deep commitment to sustainable construction," said Mike Sievers, Marketing Manager, BASF Polyurethane Foam Enterprises LLC. "Disaster resistance is an acid test for all of our building envelope-related products. We are proud to be a part of this nationwide program to promote sound residential construction techniques with the goals of protecting families from the heartbreak of losing their homes or even worse, loved ones to a disaster."

FLASH, which was founded in Florida in 1998 as the Florida Alliance for Safe Homes, works with the media, government officials, building professionals, and homeowners to promote best practices in preparing for all forms of disaster, including floods, hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, tornadoes, extreme temperatures and terrorism. Through its educational program, Blueprint for Safety, the organization provides comprehensive training to building professionals in disaster-resistant techniques, technologies and products. FLASH also provides the public with educational materials and practical assistance in preparing for a disaster or dealing with its aftermath.

"BASF is an international leader in durable construction methods," said FLASH President CEO Leslie Chapman-Henderson. "That makes the company a valuable asset in our efforts to promote best practices for disaster safety in the residential building industry."
