Pixelligent Technologies, LLC, an emerging nanotechnology company developing patented high-performance nanocomposites for demanding applications in the electronics and military markets, and Brewer Science, Inc., a privately held specialty chemical company, announced today that they have been awarded an $8.2 million project through the prestigious National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Technology Innovation Program (TIP).
Pixelligent is the only company selected in the National Capital Region to receive the NIST award. The NIST TIP is a highly competitive program that provides cost-shared funding to accelerate and promote innovation in the U.S. for research projects in areas of critical national need.
Pixelligent, an emerging leader in developing nanocomposites for demanding applications in the electronics and military markets, and Brewer Science, a recognized leader in developing innovative solutions for the semiconductor and microelectronics markets, have teamed up to create and scale up the production of high-quality nanocomposites with enhanced performance and new functionality.
Such nanocomposites are expected to have a wide range of semiconductor and microelectronics applications such as coatings that can create brighter and more efficient LED displays and new materials that can improve the performance of Blu-ray discs.
"This win was the culmination of a long-term strategy to begin expanding the potential markets for our nanocomposite technology and accelerating our time to market," said Craig Bandes, CEO of Pixelligent. "Brewer Science has a great track record of introducing leading-edge technology to the market for almost 30 years, and we are proud to have them as a partner."
"This will be one of the first programs of its kind focused on making commercial volumes of high-quality nanocrystals/nanocomposites for multiple applications," added Dr. Gregory Cooper, Founder/President of Pixelligent. "Nanocomposites are going to become increasingly important in many areas of manufacturing, and programs like NIST TIP will help to ensure that the U.S. retains its technological leadership."
"We are very proud to have been selected by NIST for this important award. The combination of Brewer Science's proven track record in developing, introducing and scaling up high-quality optoelectronic materials, along with Pixelligent's expertise in making high-quality, wide band gap nanocrystals, has the potential to both produce and improve upon a number of very important products," said Dr. Tony Flaim, CTO of Brewer Science.
