In business since 1962, Micromeritics manufactures a broad line of automated laboratory instruments that measure various physical characteristics of powders and solids. The company has provided instrumentation and applications support to most of the world's top industrial companies and academic institutions for fundamental research, product development, quality assurance and control, production, and process control applications.
Micromeritics will exhibit a variety of materials characterization instruments at PTXi Powder & Bulk Solids, Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, May 4 -6, 2010, booth 2302.
The new generation Saturn DigiSizer II High-Definition Digital Particle Size Analyzer utilizes a state-of-the-art CCD detector containing over three million detector elements, Mie theory, and unique design and data reduction features to provide an extremely high level of resolution and sensitivity not available in other laser particle sizing systems. The Saturn DigiSizer II analyzes and measures particles over a range of 40 nanometers to 2.5 millimeters. Features such as fully automated sampling and low-volume sample handling units and a complete system for circulating the dispersing liquid/sample mixture through the cell and reservoir make the Saturn DigiSizer ideal for a wide range of production, research, and quality control applications.
Micromeritics' AccuPyc II 1340 Gas Displacement Pycnometers are fully automatic analyzers that provide volume measurements and density calculations on a wide variety of powders, solids, and slurries having volumes from 0.01 to 350 cm3. For high throughput, an integrated control and analysis module can operate up to five additional external analysis modules. A variety of sample chambers is available to accommodate a wide range of sample sizes. The GeoPyc 1360 Pycnometer determines the envelope volume and density of monolithic samples as well as the bulk volume and density of powdered materials. The instrument uses the displacement of a patented medium composed of microspheres having a high degree of flowability that does not wet the sample or fill its external or internal pores. The GeoPyc automatically calculates the total pore volume when the skeletal volume is known and is nondestructive for most samples.
Micromeritics' TriStar II Surface Area and Porosity System is a fully automated, three-station, surface area and porosity analyzer capable of increasing the speed and efficiency of quality control analyses, with the accuracy, resolution, and data reduction to meet most research requirements. The TriStar II includes a dedicated saturation pressure port and three analysis ports that operate simultaneously and independently of one another. A krypton option allows measurements in the very low surface area range.
Particulate Systems, a Micromeritics brand, will exhibit several instruments in the Micromeritics booth. The Particle Insight Dynamic Image Analyzer is ideal for applications where the shape of raw materials, not just the diameter, is critical to the performance of the final product. The Particle Insight offers up to 28 different shape parameters analyzed in real-time in either aqueous or organic solvent suspensions. The system operates in a range (from 3 to 300 micrometers) suitable for a wide variety of industrial, biological, and geological specimens in its standard configuration. Its unique recirculating sample module and precision optics are designed to acquire and report statistically valid measurements quickly. Features include the ability to track sample shape changes over time as well as the capability to store a collection of particle images. The Magnetic Analyzer MA-1040 detects minute quantities of iron in a wide range of materials including high-purity glass used in fiber optics to plastics used in wiring insulation. With sensitivity as low as 0.00001% magnetic content, the MA-1040 can also be used to detect low magnetic iron levels in food, precious gems, pharmaceuticals, and many other materials.
Particulate Systems was granted distribution rights for the Cordouan VASCO Series of Dynamic Light Scattering Particle Size Analyzers in March 2010. These instruments are based on a patented innovative technology developed in collaboration with the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP). Several unique features of the VASCO Series of products enable very accurate measurements even in concentrated and dark dispersions. Moreover, in most cases sample dilution is unnecessary which makes measurements almost instantaneous. With its temperature stabilization feature, the VASCO is capable of measuring particle size in a range from 6 micrometers to 1 nanometer.
