A major powertrain manufacturer was using an inferior, outdated soluble oil technology in four of its central coolant systems. After partnering with Quaker's CMS program to manage all chemicals, the facility chose to switch to a more technically advanced premium metalworking fluid.
The quantified impact resulted in nearly $300,000 annualized hard dollar savings in coolant spending alone. The solution, QUAKERCOOL® 3750 BF and QUAKERCOOL® 3760 BF.
The project first began with the conversion to QUAKERCOOL® 3750 BF. As process improvements and efficiencies gains were achieved at the powertrain manufacturer, additional production enhancements were still available. The opportunity to expand performance impact justified the decision to further engineer this coolant technology to achieve additional success. This path brought the development of QUAKERCOOL® 3760 BF.
In addition to hard dollar cost savings, Quaker helped this powertrain manufacturer raise the bar on metalworking fluid process performance expectations. These gains established enhanced key performance indicators (KPIs) thresholds. Additional soft dollar cost savings from the coolant upgrade were documented for efficiency growth associated with decreased downtime, productivity gains, and decreased health and safety concerns.
QUAKERCOOL® 3760 BF is a high-performance, emulsifiable metalworking fluid designed for light to medium-duty machining and grinding operations requiring a high degree of lubricity, cleanliness, cooling, and corrosion protection. It is especially recommended for the grinding of rings and rollers for bearings, as well as difficult machining and grinding operations on cast iron and steel.
