Siemens Receives Equipment Order from Chinese Steel Producer

Siemens Ltd. China received an order from Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. to supply automation and drive equipment for three new BOF converters in its Handan Steel Works.

The project has a total value of several million euros, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. Siemens had already received orders earlier this year from this Chinese company to equip a bloom/beam-blank combi-caster and supply a new long-product rolling mill.

Each of the three BOF converters in the Handan works has a tapping weight of 120 tons, allowing a combined total of 4.65 million tons of liquid steel to be produced per annum. Siemens is supplying the complete basic automation system – based on Simatic S7-400 PLCs – the data network and the operator control and visualization system. The automation system covers not only the converters but also the material feed, charging, steam cooling and dedusting facilities. The converter tilting mechanisms and oxygen lances are driven by Simovert Masterdrive.
