Abingdon-based coatings company Zircotec has been shortlisted for the prestigious British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAS).
The awards aim to demonstrate and promote the quality of engineering design within the UK with a particular emphasis on innovation and effectiveness. Zircotec has been nominated for its new metal coatings that protect lightweight composites, such as carbon fibre to allow their use in tough environments.
This year's nomination is the second for Zircotec’s new metal coating technology; the firm is also a finalist for the Plastics Industry Awards, set to be held later this year. The firm recently moved to bigger premises in Abingdon after previously being located on the Harwell Campus. Since the move, the firm has recruited further members of staff and opened a trade counter to make it easier to sell their technologies that are popular with classic, performance and race car and motorbike owners. "Our coating technologies help owners to solve heat, wear and corrosion issues," says sales director Peter Whyman. "With the new metal coatings we are expanding into applications in defence, marine and more F1 motor racing, helping to improve durability, safety and performance."
The winners of the BEEAS award will be announced at a ceremony in London on the 14th October 2010.
