Power from Coal Waste

Australia’s CSIRO have just unveiled a new technology for converting coal mining waste into power.

The revolutionary new technology has the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gases as well as provide big savings for mining companies that operate coal mines.

The new technology known as “Liquatech”, employs a hybrid coal and gas turbine system. The turbine generates power from waste coal and gas that would have otherwise polluted the atmosphere.

Using existing technology, the technique can be used to power a 1.3 megawatt turbine that can either be used to generate power for the mine of for return into the power grid for general consumption.

The technology was developed by the CSIRO over the last three years in conjunction with other partners as part of a larger ongoing project to reduce greenhouse emissions from coal mines.
