LTR Products, a subsidiary of Liberty Tire Recycling and manufacturers of Pinnacle Rubber Mulch, has recently formed a partnership with a Boy Scout in Bangor, Maine who is working to make a local playground safer for the children who play on it.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout – the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America – Sean O'Connor must plan, organize, lead, and manage a community service project. Sean has decided to renovate the Ronald McDonald House playground in his home town, which is enjoyed by almost 450 families who stay at the home each year. A key part of the renovation was making the playground surfacing safer and more low-maintenance. Sean chose Pinnacle Rubber Mulch as the new safety surfacing for the project, an innovative and eco-friendly alternative to wood mulch for landscaping and playgrounds that is made from recycled scrap tires.
"When Sean asked us to donate our Pinnacle Rubber Mulch for his playground renovation project benefiting the Ronald McDonald House, we were more than happy to provide him with whatever he needed to help make the playground a safer place," said Brad Pittam, general manager, LTR Products. "Not only are we proud to help assist this young man as he strives to earn his Eagle Scout designation, but we are also pleased to be able to offer families at the Ronald McDonald House a safe place to play while they stay at their home away from home."
"I'd like to thank LTR Products for their generous donation to my Eagle Scout service project," said Sean O'Connor. "I'm excited that my project will benefit hundreds of families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor each year, and companies like LTR Products are making it possible for me help a great cause like the Ronald McDonald House."
LTR Products donated 7 tons of brown rubber playground mulch for the Ronald McDonald House playground. The mulch will remain bright and plush for at least 12 years, avoiding the need for the organization to have to replenish it on an annual basis, as is often required for wood mulch.
Pinnacle Rubber Mulch will also make the playground safer for children staying at the Ronald McDonald house with their families. In fact, as a playground safety surfacing, a six-inch layer of Pinnacle Rubber Mulch will cushion a child's fall from as high as 16 feet, providing up to 50 percent more fall-height protection than wood mulch using half of the material. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Council reports that more than 150,000 children are injured in playground falls each year, which makes safety surfacing one of the most vital components of playground construction. Additionally, rubber mulch is non allergenic, non-toxic and harmless to plants, pets and children. It is also clean, minimizes airborne dust and particles, and does not splinter like wood mulch.
