PPG Industries Rolls Out New Biodegradable Substrate

Coating products specialist, PPG Industries has unveiled a new product called TESLIN Biodegradable substrate, an eco-friendly material that will facilitate companies and producers to fulfill the increasing demand for sustainable performance.

The TESLIN Biodegradable is a sheet material that has built-in security, printability and reliability properties like the standard-grade Teslin product and offers end-of-life solution. In third-party laboratory evaluation under ASTM standard D5511, the substrate gets converted into components such as water and CO2 in an anaerobic condition containing polymer-eating microbes. This condition is equivalent to those encountered in majority of landfills.

Special processing or handling methods are not required for the TESLIN Biodegradable substrate. The biodegradable substrate comes in all range of commercial thicknesses and can be used as a material for loyalty cards and specialty-printing purposes such as labels, tags, menus and maps.

The International Card Manufacturers Association presented an Élan Award to a loyalty card producer for its facility access card manufactured using Teslin Biodegradable substrate.

The microporous sheet material, Teslin substrate, is ideal for in-mold graphic and technology-based applications such as radio frequency identification labels and cards and e-Passports.
