Northern Technologies International (NTIC), producer of eco-friendly and bio-degradable bio-plastic products, declared that it has signed an accord with Naturfuels S.r.l. an Italy-based company, to market its patented Natur-Tec bio-plastic products in the Italian market.
Lately from the beginning of this year, the government of Italy has enforced a ban on the manufacture and distribution of polyethylene plastic bags that are not bio-degradable.
According to the terms of the contract, NTIC will provide Natur-Tec BF703BX, a bio-degradable film grade resin to Naturfuels for the manufacture of shopping and garbage bags on traditional plastic film making equipment. The resin based BF703BX film complies with the European standard of EN13432 and is certified as bio-degradable by AIB-Vincotte, a third part certification providing company.
Vineet Dalal, NTIC’s Vice President and Director of Global Market Development, said that the recent ban on plastics in Italy has increased the demand for bio-plastics. He explained that Italy was utilizing over 20 billion plastic bags annually and substituting them with bio-plastic bags will result in a billion-dollar market opportunity for the bio-plastic manufacturers in the country.
