Provider of shrink label products, Gilbreth Packaging has introduced a new label technology called RAS (Roll Applied Shrink).
The technology uses Eastman Embrace copolyesters. The innovative shrink film earned first place under 'New Materials' category in the PLGA 2010 Global Print Quality Awards.
The RAS label technology offers Machine Direction PETG shrinks film that provides 360° coverage. The film can shrink to 55%. The technology allows the utilization of current wrapping systems. However, it needs a heat tunnel to enable the film to wrap over most containers. In addition to working with uncomplicated bottle shapes, the technology can be used for intricate package shapes.
Bonset and Klockner Pentaplast are using the RAS technology resins to produce Gilbreth's machine direction shrink film with roll applied shrink labels. The technology enables machine direction film to produce the aesthetic appeal of a shrink sleeve and eliminates the cost of conversion.
The RAS technology allows optimum shrinkage utilizing laser welds, solvent or hot melt and thus offers better design versatility and decorating options to co-packers, decorators and consumer product companies when compared to conventional MDO films. Eastman Chemical, in collaboration with Gilbreth, had developed the RAS technology.
