According to EPSI, distributor of custom masking and hanging solutions, the Teflon magnetic dot design significantly enhances the surface finish quality and reliability.
In addition, it reduces the total time taken for applying or removing masks. Thus, the Teflon dot is an optimal solution and does not require any tools.
In 2008, the Teflon dot has been first developed as a masking solution for application in plating and powder coating sectors. EPSI stated that for several years, coaters were utilizing high-temperature die-cut discs to cover the no-paint zones found near tapped holes. The output was not perfect and resulted in low quality and non-centered paint lines on the no-paint zones. Coaters end up spending more time to apply and remove these die-cut discs.
The innovative masking solution features a samarium cobalt rare earth magnet that is packed in a shell. In addition to protecting the magnet, the Teflon shell aids in locating the Teflon magnetic dot on the tapped hole. This results in sharp and desired paint line on the no-paint zone. The mask operates at a temperature of 500°C.
