Unifi has established an $8 million worth REPREVE Recycling Center, which will enable it to boost the REPREVE recycled fiber production capacities. REPREVE is a range of recycled nylon and polyester fibers and find its applications in automotive, apparel and paneling and seating fabrics.
Since the past two years, more than 247 million PET bottles have undergone the recycling process and have been converted to REPREVE. The REPREVE Recycling Center is expected to recycle more than 400 million bottles into sustainable REPREVE fibers.
Unifi will recycle post-consumer and post-industrial polyester waste through the modern recycling center. The 50,000 sq.ft facility is also expected to recycle garments and fabrics in the future. The recycling center’s main strategy is to increase the production capabilities as well as capacities, enhance fiber color and accelerate volume growth.
The center has been built using advanced recycling technology, which provides flexibility for future expansion of the REPREVE brand in new avenues. The REPREVE Recycling Center will reinforce Unifi's commitment towards sustainable fiber production.
The center will change waste materials into sustainable fibers. The new building has various sustainable features, including sensor-based light fixtures for reducing energy usage, recycled building materials and 67 skylights to allow natural sunlight.
