At the 2011 International Foundry Trade Fair (GIFA), Industrial Minerals, a minerals processing firm, has planned to officially introduce SpheriChrome, a unique chromite product. The event will be held from June 28 to July 2 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The uniform grain size and spherical form of the chromite product made the company to name it as SpheriChrome. These features enable iron and steel foundries to reduce emissions and imperfections that result from casting to produce superior quality products.
The SpheriChrome mineral offers various benefits to the foundries. It helps increase tensile strength, decrease casting defects, pack molds more firmly and produce uniform cast finish. The chromite product minimizes the resin requirement in the foundry process and is used as an alternative to zircon in foundries.
Oregon Resources Corp, a subsidiary of Industrial Minerals, has excavated the SpheriChrome, which is present in the Southern Oregon mineral sands. The company’s US operation is expected to create more than 70,000 tons of the chromite products over a year. Several local and global customers have shown significant interest in the SpheriChrome because of its unique characteristics. Hence, the company expects to commence large-scale shipments at the earliest.
