Nova Chemicals to Idle UK Polystyrene Unit

As part of its campaign to improve financial performanceNova Chemicals has decided to idle its expanded polystyrene (EPS) plant in Carrington UK.

These changes will come into effect in late October. Existing EPS clients will continue to be supplied by Nova. EPS supplies will come from other plants in France and the Netherlands.

Low demands for EPS in Europe over the last two years have lead to low utilisation rates for Nova’s EPS plants. Idling the UK plant will result in a 24% decrease in their European EPS capacity.

Precise details regarding the idling such as commencement and duration are yet to be confirmed. Some staff will be kept on to keep the plant in operable condition.

Despite the idling of the EPS facility in the UK, the solid polystyrene manufacturing facility at the same location will remain in operation.
