Developer of advanced 3-D solar cell technology, Solar3D has taken an initiative to optimize prototype solar cell design for economical mass production. The company has partnered with manufacturing experts to enhance the prototype design. This initiative will save operating and capital costs.
Solar3D’s CEO, Jim Nelson stated that developing a highly efficient solar cell, which is better than the existing technology, is a part of the company’s objective and it is important to produce a low-cost solar cell.
The breakthrough solar cell technology uses a 3-D design to capture sunlight within the micro-photovoltaic structures where photons leap around till they are changed into electrons. The company’s innovative solar cell design is expected to significantly alter the solar energy economics.
Nelson further added that the optimization of solar cell design in early phases has saved both money and time, as the company progresses into the production stage. Hence, Solar3D believes that it can contribute positively to the SunShot initiative, which has been launched to minimize the solar energy cost.
