Alcan to Re-Organise Global Fabrication Technology Sites

Alcan have announced plans to re-organise their global fabrication technology sites. Consequently, the activities of Alcan’s research and development will be aligned more closely with operating business groups, allowing them to continue developing technology in the most effective manner.

Research and development efforts will be concentrated into two locations, Kingston, Canada and Neuhausen, Switzerland. These changes will result in the closure of the research and development facility located at Banbury, UK.

Despite the closure of the Banbury facility, Alcan will maintain their R&D efforts, transferring the projects from Banbury to Kingston and Neuhausen. As a consequence, R&D operations will have lower operating overheads.

Alcan will try to relocate leading R&D staff to the two other R&D facilities, and will try to source alternative employment for those remaining in the UK.
