Domtar has expanded its eco-friendly paper product line called EarthChoice with the inclusion of specialty papers utilized for the hamburger wrap, sugar pouches, candy wrappers, popcorn bags and bandage wraps.
Domtar manufactures the specialty paper products at its mills located in Nekoosa and Rothschild, Wisconsin, Port Huron, Michigan, and Espanola, Ontario. All these mills are qualified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification by the Rainforest Alliance, which audits companies and forests to FSC standards through its SmartWood program.
Domtar also declared that all production processes of its Domtar Tradebook paper will now be certified to FSC standards and the book paper product will have the new name, EarthChoice Tradebook. This expansion allows Domtar to sell over 150,000 additional tons of FSC-qualified paper per year.
The latest announcement from Domtar marks its commitment towards the environment. In June 2011, the company introduced the Paper Trail, an online tool that assists consumers and businesses to notice the environmental effects of certain paper grades and guides them to select the ideal paper product.
Lewis Fix, who serves as the Vice-President of Sustainable Business and Brand Management at Domtar, stated that the company sold nearly 1,0000000 t of FSC-certified EarthChoice paper in 2009 and now it is happy to expand its product line with the inclusion of book and specialty paper products.
