JBI, an alternative oil and gas company, has inked an agreement with Rock-Tenn for converting the by-product waste from mills into fuel. JBI's Plastic2Oil technology is to be implemented for the conversion process.
The paper mills and Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) of RockTenn generate a huge quantity of plastic waste as by-product, which runs to over thousands of tons per day. The mill has been storing the waste product in plastic-only monofill sites for many years.
According to the terms of the agreement, JBI has received an exclusive 10-year license for building and operating its Plastic2Oil processors at RockTenn’s mills and facilities. It also includes mining and processing the waste plastic in the monofill sites. The licensing agreement also includes a renewal option.
John Bordynuik, the Founder and CEO of JBI, stated that being selected by RockTenn for the long-term venture was an honor. The agreement validated the commercial viability of the Plastic2Oil process in handling the increasing energy costs and waste by-products, he added. The huge amount of feedstock available to RockTenn from its industrial relationship will require hundreds of JBI’s Plastic2Oil processors and the company’s sites can support clusters of the Plastic2Oil processors, he said. Bordynuik added that the processors were designed in a modular 'plug and play' format for quick deployment at the desired locations at RockTenn.
