Ready-Mix Concrete Plants in Virginia to Receive Sustainable Concrete Plant Certification

Titan America declared that three of its ready-mix concrete plants located in Virginia will be certified by the National Ready-Mixed Concrete Association’s new Sustainable Concrete Plant Certification program.

The ready-mix concrete plants, which are among the first to get the sustainable concrete certification, are located in Clear Brook, Suffolk and Richmond. The National Ready-Mixed Concrete Association introduced the Sustainable Concrete Plant Certification program in 2011.

The sustainable concrete certification measures the sustainable production capabilities of a concrete producer. It includes performance-based, quantitative measures to offer specific guidance to the ready-mix concrete manufacturers to evaluate their manufacturing processes and execute sustainability methods that will eventually reduce their overall footprint.

To get the certification, plant officials should implement Concrete Plant Guidelines that assess a plant’s sustainability levels within various credit categories, with the goal of decreasing energy consumption, waste, water utilization, carbon emissions and enhancing recycled content, social and human health conditions.

Titan America, a subsidiary of Titan Cement Company, manufactures cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates and fly ash beneficiation. The Vice President of Aggregates and Virginia Ready Mix at Titan America stated that the certification is a substantial and measurable evidence of the company’s sustainability efforts, preservation and energy efficacy. The company will continuously enhance its operations in all possible ways, he added.
