West Pharmaceutical Services, a provider of proprietary materials science, formulation research and manufacturing technologies for injectable drug administration, announced that it has made investment to expand research and development center located in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The expanded facility will focus on the development of new elastomer formulations, products and process technologies. The development will support worldwide component manufacturing network of West Pharmaceutical Services.
West Pharmaceutical Services’ expanded center will develop innovative technologies for finishing, molding, compounding and mixing elastomer packaging parts. The company anticipates that the advanced development center will commence operations by October 2011.
The expansion of the R&D center allows the company to continue its support to clients requiring very clean pharmaceutical packaging components and delivery system solutions through the introduction of new technologies and existing technologies. The established technologies of West Pharmaceutical Services include Envision automated vision inspection system, FluroTec barrier film and Westar process.
The advanced development center works based on the varying needs of customers, which will enable the company to enhance the manufacturing processes and product development. Thus, the company helps clients to meet their business goals such as quality by design initiatives. West Pharmaceutical Services’ main objective is to provide advanced packaging system solutions and drug administration products. The initiative continues by understanding and preventing discrepancies in the products to reduce customers’ exposure to risk. Worldwide pharmaceutical manufacturers look for collaborations with packaging producers such as West Pharmaceutical Services to minimize risk and to meet stringent quality requirements, said Fran DeGrazio, Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Business Development.
