Electrovaya, a designer, developer and manufacturer of proprietary Lithium Ion SuperPolymer batteries, battery energy storage systems, and battery-related products, has received an order to deliver a 1.2 MWh lithium ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for a clean energy generation demonstration program in Ontario. This is the second major grid storage project for the company.
The program is a part of Electrovaya’s $7.6 million project, which includes investigation of the potential use of the BESS in renewable energy projects like solar and wind farms. The project is supported by the Government of Canada's Clean Energy Fund (CEF). The project partners include Hydro One, Canada and Natural Resources.
Hydro One Networks’ VP of Asset Management, Rick Stevens stated that they are delighted to partner with Electrovaya and to investigate how BESS can perform with their grid and benefit their clients. The Government of Canada has invested $3.36 million in Electrovaya’s energy storage project and has shown its commitment to advance clean technology in Canada.
The contract demonstrates Electrovaya's leadership position and continuous success in the grid storage market. In addition, it represents the rising importance of its lithium ion battery technology and clean non-NMP manufacturing process.
The proprietary lithium ion SuperPolymer cell of Electrovaya is manufactured using its non-toxic NMP-free process. The company’s battery energy storage systems include proprietary thermal and battery management systems, lithium ion SuperPolymer cells and other subsystems.
