Asia Pulp & Paper (APP-China) has joined hands with 76 enterprises in an effort to improve sustainable development in the country’s paper industry. The parties have signed an initiative presented at the 2nd Annual Forum on the industry’s Green Development put forth by the China Paper Association.
The new initiative stresses on collective efforts to accomplish emission-reduction and energy-saving targets set by the Chinese government in its Five Year Plan for 2011 to 2015. The initiative outlines that by 2015, the average water and energy consumption towards each ton of paper/pulp should reduce by 18%, the chemical oxygen demand emission should reduce by 10%, while bio energy should increase by 20%.
In the fourth quarter report of PCwC (Paper Contract with China), APP-China highlights on the positive impact that paper companies can create through responsible actions. The report highlights that knowledge, experience and resource sharing will engage several industries and companies and create a positive impact. APP-China has also put tremendous efforts in the establishment of several knowledge sharing platforms created to impact the society, economy and the environment in a positive manner.
APP-China is a pulp and paper company and ranked as Asia’s largest vertically integrated paper and pulp producer. The flagship mill of APP, Gold East Paper has been responsible for bringing together industry professionals by organizing the Sinar Mas Prints Awards that offer a platform for discussions on printing technologies and latest materials. APP-China began supporting the Paper Industry Sustainability Forum in 2008.
