TenCate is in the process of acquiring Performance Materials Corporation Baycomp (PMC Baycomp) based out of Camarillo in California, USA. PMC Baycomp was founded in 1985 by Saint Gobain and is the product of a merger between PMC and Baycomp.
PMC Baycomp is a specialist in thermoplastic uni-directional tape materials and composite materials moulding across Canada and America. The acquisition by TenCate is expected to be complete by April 2012.
To keep up pace with its market presence in global composite markets, TenCate has plans to expand PMC Baycomp’s revenue potential in currently booming sectors such as mobility and oil and gas. One significant entry key to affordable composite material markets is the PMC Baycomp technology. This makes this acquisition strategically very important for TenCate. PMC Baycomp has the required capacity to back up the upcoming growth and, in Europe, TenCate will simultaneously begin production of uni-directional (UD) tape materials. This will help TenCate brace up for new prospects in European markets.
PMC manufactures components and moulded parts using thermoplastic composite materials for several applications such as sporting goods, medical, automotive, transportation, and electronics. Baycomp is a specialist in thermoplastic UD-tape materials, which are suitable for use in the oil and gas and automotive sectors and in other industrial applications. Apart from its manufacturing plants in Canada and the US, PMC Baycomp has a moulding plant in China and an R&D facility in Taiwan.
TenCate is a key manufacturer of thermoplastic composites for the aerospace sector. TenCate Advanced Composites’ Group Director, Dave Clarke believes that this acquisition by TenCate will expand its composite materials base in sectors such as oil and gas and automotives.
