HyperBranch Medical Technology, a privately-held firm based in Durham, North Carolina, has secured the CE Mark approval to commence sales of Adherus AutoSpray Dural Sealant outside the U.S. Adherus AutoSpray is the first independent bioadhesive spray applicator, which is used for efficient delivery of dural sealant offered by HyperBranch.
The sealant is utilized in spine and cranial surgeries to avoid cerebrospinal fluid leaks that occur after the dural repair. Avoidance of cerebrospinal fluid leaks need to benefit the patient in certain post-surgical complications, like infection and leaks, leading to shorter hospital stays.
John Conn, President and CEO of HyperBranch, commented that Adherus AutoSpray is an innovative delivery system that removes complex preparation steps for the nurse and enables the surgeon to start and stop sealant dispensing in an accurate and effortless way without clogging issues. In addition to offering a watertight seal, Adherus AutoSpray Dural Sealant serves as an adhesion barrier to reduce scarring, remarked Conn. The product matches HyperBranch’s other neurosurgery products, including Adherus MIS and Adherus Dural Sealant. The company’s entire range of products has the same proprietary chemistry, which offers controlled performance and degrades gradually during the healing process. The Adherus sealants are biodegradable synthetic hydrogels, which undergo polymerization in a moist area and flow optimally based on the application.
Currently, HyperBranch has attained CE Marks for five of its products. A US feasibility study has been completed by the company and is about to complete the pivotal part for its cranial product, which is equipped with the new Autospray device.
