IDM International, a minerals processing firm, has declared that it has planned to commence its first large bulk shipment loading by June 20, 2012. Currently, Coos Bay-based dock and warehouse plant contains 11,000 t of SpheriChrome for loading, which will be then shipped to China. A major marketing firm in the mineral sands industry is buying this SpheriChrome shipment.
According to IDM’s Director of Marketing, Brianna Hanson, the customers realized that the company can produce foundry sand with high-quality for use in difficult foundry applications. This SpheriChrome material is meant for use in various foundries located in China and the company is expecting more market acceptance in the huge foundry industry in China, comparable to what it has attained in North America, Hanson stated.
New COO from IDM, Mr. Wayne Knott stated that the alterations carried out at the facility are moving ahead and the level of production has been increased. The current marketing efforts will be supported through improvements and alterations, by offering increased certainty in quantity and quality of the product. Knott added that enhanced performance of the facility and bulk shipments are favorable developments in view of the challenging start-up year for IDM. The company is expecting better results in the next fiscal year.
Oregon Resources mined SpheriChrome material, a specialty casting sand, at the Coos Bay Oregon State. This material is a chromite sand, which became available in the fall season of 2011.
