Makrolon Polycarbonate in Spectacles

Bayer and French company Bourgeois SA are collaborating with the aim of drawing the attention of spectacle wearers to corrective lenses "Made of Makrolon®"

The polycarbonate material is noted for its high strength and thereby ensures effective protection against eye injuries. This is of particular benefit to children and sportsmen, especially to wearers of modern frameless spectacles.

In addition, an advantage over conventional glass is the low weight of the material, which ensures a high degree of comfort.

The Makrolon® lenses also have the ability to filter out the majority of the UV radiation that is damaging to the eyes up to 380 nm .

A coating is applied to the surface to protect it from mechanical damage, giving polycarbonate lenses a scratch resistance comparable to that of glass.
