Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Carbon Fiber Industry in India 2013" report to their offering.
This report gives an 2013 updated overview of the Carbon Fiber industry in India, including market figures for Carbon Fiber and Carbon Fiber Composites. The carbon fiber industry is split in the local manufacturing of carbon fibers and the imports. The local market has a market share of only 10% which shows that the imports are dominating the market. These imports are primarily from Japan as well as from Hong Kong, US, Singapore, China, Korea and Taiwan. The biggest local player is Kemrock Industries and Exports Limited and the major import players are Toray, Toho Tenax and Cytec.
The importers are manufacturing in Germany, India, China and do not have any direct operations in India. The products e.g. doctor blades, badminton rackets are direct imports by end users (either used as raw materials or direct sales to market).
Concerning the supply most of the carbon fiber requirement is imported because of better quality and because of the fact that the local manufacturing is still in the pilot stage. Concerning the demand the carbon fiber usage has been very limited due to high production costs and the easy availability of substitutes (glass fibers).
Recent news in June 2012 was that Toho Tenax Co Ltd announced a partnership with India-based Hindoostan Technical Fabrics Ltd to develop and market carbon fibre fabrics for India's composite industry.
