When measured by cell shipments, more than 99% of advanced batteries consisted of Li-ion chemistries in 2012. Navigant Research identified another clear winner in the advanced batteries race: China. The majority of advanced batteries were manufactured in China, with the United States, South Korea, and Japan coming in well behind that country. Notably, there was very little manufacturing activity in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa in 2012.
