PANalytical, the world’s leading supplier of analytical instrumentation and software for X-ray and related techniques, announces their free webinar on “Texture evolution in metals under mechanical stresses: application of a tensile stage on a laboratory X-ray diffraction system” on 9 October 2014, presented by Hans te Nijenhuis, Product management XRD, PANalytical B.V., the Netherlands.
Texture evolution in metals under mechanical stresses: Application of a tensile stage on a laboratory X-ray diffraction system.
The texture of a worked piece of material is a result of the history of the manufacturing process. Control of texture is important in order to obtain the manufactured product with the desired property, such as strength, hardness and conductivity. The materials researcher is therefore not only interested in the study of the final texture of a sample, but also in following the texture evolution during the formation or deformation processes. Knowledge of the evolution of preferred orientations can provide valuable information in order to optimize the manufacturing process.
In the webinar, the texture evolution of a rolled copper strip under mechanical strain was investigated in situ by the application of a tensile stage onto an Empyrean X-ray diffraction system.
