Olympus has recently launched its latest nondestructive testing technology, the BondMaster® 600 Bond Tester. The portable BondMaster® 600 Bond Tester is built to test bonds in laminate or honeycomb composites or metal-to-metal components in a nondestructive manner.
The BondMaster 600 is fitted with the state-of-the-art technologies such as mechanical impedance analysis (MIA), resonance technologies, and pitch-catch modes to deliver high quality results. The device is compact and robust, and weighs just 1.7kg (3.75lbs.). It is provided with a 5.7in. full-screen VGA display that enables users to choose highly contrasting signals according to the lighting conditions.
The factory-mounted hand strap of the BondMaster 600 allows easy thumb contact to the control keys, thereby enabling instant fine-tuning of regularly-used parameters. The device can withstand up to 9h of typical operation due to its long battery life.
The BondMaster 600 comes in two designs to suit various composite bond testing requirements. The basic design is in-built with pitch-catch mode while the multimode design has three bond testing inspection modes. Honeycomb inspection requires the pitch-catch mode for obtaining readings in real-time on the display, which in turn enables easier error analysis. This basic design also has a new frequency tracking aspect that is practical for writing down process steps as well as for creating new applications.
The multimode design is suitable for metal-to-metal disbonds and laminate composite. The MIA has a better frequency range of up to 50kHz, which permits easy identification of minor errors and detection of repaired parts.
Energy, aerospace, and automotive sectors are some of the industries that would find the BondMaster 600 very useful, especially for maintenance checks.
