BASF is a major sponsor of the 18th International Seminar on Paste and Thickened Tailings (PASTE) from 5 to 7 May in Cairns, Queensland. Over 40 technical papers are expected to be delivered during the seminar with BASF experts presenting two papers in collaboration with key industry partners:
- Tailings co-disposal – Art or science: BASF and Murray Zircon Pty Ltd will present a case study based on the findings from the Mindarie Mineral Sands Project in South Australia.
- Chemical technology in cemented paste backfill: BASF and Newmont Mining will discuss the findings from their field work conducted at Newmont’s Tanami gold mine in the Northern Territory.
A third BASF co-authored paper titled Polymer-modified tailings deposition, which focuses on testing and potential storage efficiency opportunities, will be presented by Golder Associates.
“BASF is proud to be at the forefront of addressing key industry issues, such as water return, land usage and site rehabilitation, ensuring that our customers’ operations run more efficiently – delivering real operational, economic and environmental benefits,” said Ian Flanagan, Global Market Manager Rheomax® and Tailings Management, BASF.
BASF will contribute to topics on thickening, underground and backfill, rheology, surface disposal during the seminar, as well as offer further insights into its Rheomax® ETD (Enhanced Tailings Disposal) technology.
Initiated in 1999, PASTE provides a valuable forum for international tailings and mine waste practitioners to explore, learn and share advances in paste and thickened tailings and, increasingly important, water conservation and environmental stewardship.
