Dominant Semiconductor Cleared of Five of Eight Patent Infringements Brought by Osram

Notice is hereby given that the U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that there is no violation by DOMINANT on five out of the eight patents brought forward by Osram GmbH.

Osram’s patent infringement complaint, filed with the United States International Trade Commission comprised of two basic technologies. One group of patent covers technology that enables LEDs to emit white light. The other group of patents concerns technology for electrical connection structures used in high-power LEDs for automobile lighting applications.

For the five US patents related to White LEDs, the Commission established that DOMINANT did not infringe any of the said patents. “This determination supports our stand that DOMINANT respects intellectual property rights. We possess our own unique know-how and will continue to develop new technologies,” said the spoke person from DOMINANT.

As for the patent infringement in PLCC 4 package or power LEDs, no literal infringement was found but an equivalent infringement was concluded. “Much innovation has been put into our PLCC4 product line and we believe that our product has its own merits,” said DOMINANT spoke-person. Nevertheless, DOMINANT respects the determination and will take further actions to remedy this matter.

This decision, which was delivered by the Washington-based trade commission, opens the door for DOMINANT Semiconductors Sdn. Bhd. to compete aggressively in the U.S. White LED market.
