Konarka Expands Printing and Coating Capabilities

Konarka Technologies, Inc. has announced Eitan Zeira, founder of Polysun, Inc., joined the Company as director of organic electronic printing technology, bringing more than 20 years of research and product development experience in the printing and coating industry to Konarka. Konarka further reinforces its leading intellectual property position with the acquisition of Polysun's intellectual property which focused on enabling printed photovoltaics with current printing technologies.

"Zeira will make a significant contribution to Konarka's printing and coating capabilities, which are central to our scalable roll-to-roll process for manufacturing versatile, lightweight Power Plastic™," said Dr. Stuart Spitzer, vice president of materials and engineering, Konarka.

Dr. Russ Gaudiana, vice president of research, Konarka adds, "Zeira's expertise and intellectual property in printing and coating technology will help Konarka enhance product performance while keeping costs low."

Zeira joins Konarka after 21 years at Nashua Corporation, a leading manufacturer of printed electronic materials and applications, where he was most recently vice president of technology. At Nashua, Zeira led teams covering all stages of new product introduction from applied science to market research to initial sales at the corporate and group level for the Computer Products, Coated Products and Converted Products divisions. Among his accomplishments at Nashua, Zeira developed and commercialized projection screens and developed reel to reel printed circuit technology. As VP of the Coated Division, Zeira was responsible for generating more than 25% of gross sales from new products. Under Zeira's leadership, a joint development project between Nashua and Parlex led to the commercialization of Press Printed Circuits. Prior to Nashua, Zeira developed thin film magnetic hard discs at Memorex Corporation. Zeira holds 12 patents and patent applications. He received both his M.S. in Material Science, and his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA.
